KDKA Radio Editorial: O'Connor Entering Mayoral Race A Good Development
Tuesday was a good day for registered voters in the City of Pittsburgh.
They will have a choice of mayoral candidates in May's Democratic primary, between politicians with different visions for the city.
The upcoming election is pivotal: the General Election winner is determined in the primary because Republican candidates are rarely competitive.
Corey O'Connor's candidacy will lead to a vigorous debate with Mayor Ed Gainey over the direction city government will take and the best leader to oversee it.
The big issues are numerous: spending on Public Safety, Downtown development, affordable housing, police hiring including a new chief, the homeless, non-profit contributions and the financial challenges ahead with federal pandemic funds drying up at the same time property tax revenue is dropping.
A competitive primary for the Democratic nomination for mayor is in the best interest of the residents of the City of Pittsburgh.
