Human Officers in Kittanning say dog was left starving before it was shot twice

The Armstrong County Humane Program is asking for tips after a dog in Kittanning was starved, abandoned and shot earlier this month.

Human Police Officers say “Rico”, a black-and-white pit bull mix was found walking on a dirt road in Troy Hill on Sunday, August 3 by a man.

The man noticed Rico was “very skinny”. He fed him but had his own dogs with him at the time, so he went home and called his niece.

The man’s niece and her husband went to go see Rico when they found that he had been shot twice in the head, whimpering.

They called police who contacted Human Police officers, who took him to an emergency veterinary hospital in Monroeville.

“He was in a great deal of pain and cried the whole way,” a release says.

After an exam, the only thing doctors could do was euthanize Rico.

A necropsy showed Rico had suffered from starvation before he was shot.

Rico was shot sometime between 8:45 and 9:15 p.m. Anyone with any information is asked to call Human Officer Susan Clark at 724-316-7691.
