Officials vow to find answers while honoring victims of Clairton explosion

As the investigation in to the tragic explosion at the US Steel Clairton Coke Works continues, Governor Josh Shapiro and several dignitaries held a press conference in Clairton Tuesday afternoon

U.S. Steel President and CEO Dave Burritt says he is determined to make sure this never happens again and that they take care of everyone that has been affected to the best of their ability.

“We are doing everything we can to support them,” said Burritt. “To our colleagues at Clairton, please know that professional councilors from our employee’s assistance program are on site, right now, and are available to help in any way you need.”

Governor Shapiro said steelworkers “literally” build up the nation on a daily basis and that they will find out what happened.

“We owe them an answer for what happened,” said Shapiro. “We owe them the answers for their question and we own them to never forget the sacrifices that happened here yesterday.”

Shapiro adds U.S. Steel has assured him they will find out what happened to cause the accident that killed two people and left 10 others injured.

Shapiro spent time before the news conference with the family of Timothy Quinn, one of the men that died in the accident.

Quinn was a single father of three children.
