A historic building at Old Economy Village in Beaver County was damaged after a large tree fell on it during severe thunderstorms Tuesday.
Old Economy says the tree fell on the Community Kitchen as storms moved through the Ambridge area round 5 p.m.
“The Community Kitchen is a historically accurate rebuild that houses significant historic fabric and artifacts and serves as a vital gathering space for site programming and community events,” Old Economy said in a Facebook post.
The site is currently being assessed and an emergency declaration is being drafted to help secure funding “to make the site safe and secure.”
Old Economy says there are three steps they need to take, removing the tree safely and properly, stabilizing the structure after the tree is removed and after it is safe to enter, artifacts will be removed and stored safely.
“We are working quickly to protect the site's history and ensure our programs continue uninterrupted,” Old Economy said. “We will keep you updated on our progress. Thank you for your continued support!”
