One injured after shooting and standoff near Westmoreland Community College

The investigation continues following a shooting and standoff Monday in New Kensington.

One person was injured after shots were fired around 12:30 p.m. near Valley Royal Court on Fifth Avenue, prompting a brief lockdown at the nearby Westmoreland County Community College campus as well as at Valley Junior-Senior High.

The Westmoreland County District Attorney's office says there was a brief standoff with the shooter who was then taken into custody without incident.

The victim was driven to a hospital by personal vehicle.
