New bipartisan legislation in Harrisburg aims to add safeguards for online gamblers and curb problem gaming across Pennsylvania.
State Representatives Tarik Khan and Jamie Flick are proposing new restrictions on online gambling, including limits on how often users can deposit money into gaming accounts, a ban on using credit cards to fund wagers, and a prohibition on advertising to people enrolled in Pennsylvania's self-exclusion program.
The lawmakers also want stricter rules on marketing directed at minors and limits on gambling-related push notifications and text messages.
Supporters argue that online gambling is becoming a growing public health concern, citing increased participation and a rise in calls to the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline.
They say the proposals are aimed at promoting responsible gaming and protecting families and vulnerable users.
