The state Attorney General is warning holiday shoppers: be careful when buying pets.
If you’re thinking of giving a dog or cat as a holiday gift, Attorney General Dave Sunday says it’s important to be careful.
Some online or in-store sellers may advertise puppies that don’t exist, are from puppy mills, or come with hidden high-interest loans.
Red flags include paying upfront online, not seeing the puppy’s mother, or missing vaccination records.
Sunday advises considering breed-specific rescues or local shelters instead.
Anyone who feels they’ve been scammed or caught in predatory pet financing can file a complaint with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.
