A state lawmaker wants to see a new Commonwealth flag flying across Pennsylvania.
Representative Joe Webster, out of Montgomery County, Says the current flag is too similar to 11 other state flags across the country and wants PA’s to “stand out.”
The current PA flag is blue with a seal in the middle featuring two horses and an eagle on top.
“The North American Vexillological Association outlines five principles of a good flag, which are to keep it simple, use meaningful symbolism, use two or three basic colors, avoid lettering or seals, and be distinctive or be related,” Webster say in a memorandum posted this week. “The Pennsylvania state flag does not embrace these principles.”
Webster’s resolution would establish “State Flag Commission to study the flag’s history, solicit design submission and recommend changes.”
The current flag of Pennsylvania was adopted in 1907.
