PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) It was a record-setting year for Pennsylvania wine and spirits stores.

According to the PA Liquor Control Board, gross wine and spirits sales topped $3 billion in the commonwealth for the first time ever.

The state liquor control board made a record $330.9 million in net income in the fiscal year of 2021-22, and drove a 25% increase in net income.

Spokesperson Shawn Kelly says it's yet another sign of people returning to pre-pandemic habits.

"Licensing sales returning to normal as more and more licensed establishments such as bars and restaurants started purchasing licenses again," Kelly said. "We've seen those things return to a pre-pandemic normal."

He says over $180 million of that money goes toward the state's general fund, used for things like road maintenance and public safety.

"Those are used for whatever purposes the general assembly and government decide to do."

The PLCB says it contributed $839 million to state and local governments and other beneficiaries during fiscal year 21-22.
