Two bills aimed at reducing uncollected tolls on the turnpike are moving forward. $104 million recently went uncollected on the PA turnpike in one year.
The Senate Transportation committee approved the bills Monday. It's all to address uncollected turnpike tolls, which reached 104 million dollars from June 2020 to May 2021.
State Senator Marty Flynn is sponsoring the bills.
"We have to get our hands on it and think outside the box on how to get it, because we're forcing the people who pay their toll to carry the burden of that leakage," State Senator Flynn said.
One bill requires a toll collection report from the Turnpike Commission to the General Assembly. The second bill would allow drivers to pay tolls through payment apps like Venmo.
Flynn has proposed two other bills that would increase enforcement of uncollected tolls and reinstate workers in toll booths. Those bills have not yet been voted on in committee.
