A Pittsburgh breakfast staple is mourning the loss of co-founder and the beloved face behind Pamela’s Diner.

In a social media post announcing Gail Klingensmith’s death, co-founder Pam Cohen called her business partner, “the soul” of Pamela’s, saying “Everybody loves Gail”, and so did Pittsburgh.

The two women Founded the diner in 1979 and Pamela’s Diner grew from a tiny 12-seat counter in Squirrel Hill into one of Pittsburgh’s most iconic restaurants.

Known for its crispy hotcakes and retro charm, the diner earned national attention when President Barack Obama praised the breakfast spot during a 2008 campaign stop.

Klingensmith’s family and Pamela’s Diner have not yet released details on services.
