Now that all of the decking on the Commercial Street Bridge has been removed, PennDOT says it plans to demolish what's left of the structure on the Parkway East sometime between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday.
A definitive time will come later today.
Despite reports the demolition may be delayed on Wednesday, PennDOT tells KDKA Radio that the “PennDOT’s intention is for the implosion to occur later (Wednesday).”
A spokesperson says crews and emergency personnel will clear an 800-foot perimeter and the demolition will take place after the blast zone is declared safe.
PennDOT says people who live in the area may hear a loud explosion and see dust afterwards.
