How to control road rage during long Parkway East closure

Pittsburgh's Headlines: July 10, 2026

“Pack your patience.”

You’ll be hearing that phrase a lot over the next 25 days after the Parkway East shuts down on Friday night at 9 p.m.

The closure could potentially be a source of road rage for some motorists.

On the Big K Morning Show, Dr. Christian Conte, an expert in anger management, says if another driver upsets you on the road, be mindful of your language.

“You cannot amp yourself really angerly if you’re like ‘this car is driving slower than I would like’,” said Dr. Conte.

And he says the same rule applies if the roles are reversed.

“If you do cut someone off in traffic and they get mad, a really quick ‘I’m so sorry, my bad’ that would be really helpful and disarming,” added Dr. Conte.

More than 100,000 drivers use the Parkway East on a typical day.
