Part of Parkway East to completely close this weekend

A heads up for Parkway East drivers. A stretch of the parkway will be closed in both directions for part of the weekend.

If you're going to the Jason Aldean concert or the Pirates Vs. Reds game at PNC Park on Saturday night, it might be a long trip home if you take the Parkway East.

That's because from 9 p.m. Saturday night until 5 a.m. on Monday, the highway will be closed between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and Edgewood to replace overhead signs.

PennDOT's posted detour sends eastbound drivers into Oakland onto Forbes Avenue ...to Bellefield....onto Fifth which will take them all the way through Point Breeze and Wilkinsburg to get back onto the Parkway.

West bound drivers will exit the highway at Wilkinsburg and take the same route in reverse heading into Point Breeze, Shadyside and Oakland before getting back onto the highway via the Boulevard of the Allies ramp.

It’s a “dress rehearsal” for next year, with a 25-day complete closure of the highway planned.
