On the banks of the Allegheny River, Pennsylvania attorney general Josh Shapiro officially announced his candidacy for governor of Pennsylvania Wednesday.
Shapiro, a self-described progressive Democrat, focused his speech on his work in bringing an AHN and UPMC deal together and in helping victims of sexual abuse by the Catholic Church.
The 48-year-old’s primary message for the future? Uniting the people of the commonwealth with their government.
"As we just saw in this pandemic, when people needed the government's help, too often times they couldn't get answers", Shapiro said, "Too often times, they couldn't even get their phone calls returned. That is not okay with me".
Shapiro is the first Democrat to announce candidacy for the 2022 election, while nice Republicans have already said they will run in hopes of replacing Governor Tom Wolf.
