Police patrols are increasing at Pittsburgh religious institutions after the antisemitic messages broadcast on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday over a law enforcement communication channel.
City Council member Barb Warwick called the messages "frightening" and says Zone 4 police will increase patrols in Squirrel Hill, Point Breeze, Regent Square, Oakland, Shadyside and several other neighborhoods.
The messages are pro-Nazi and threats have also been made against Mayor Corey O’Connor and the “next event at the stadium”.
Message have also included racist and homophobic language coming from a robotic voice.
Pro-Nazi music has also been played.
Allegheny County Police say one emergency channel is being used to broadcast the messages and public safety officials are using a different, more secure channel, for now.
Police say the person or person broadcasting the hateful message is not using a county or City of Pittsburgh radio and are originating from an unidentified radio user.
Allegheny County Emergency Services, Police and the FCC continue to investigate.
Anyone with any information is asked to call 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
