If you’re a leaf peeper, this weekend is the best time of year for you to catch some fall foliage in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Westmoreland and Washington Counties are all in the “best color” category, according to the PA Department of Conversation and Natural Resources.

“One can drive almost anywhere in the area and enjoy the show,” this week’s report states.

The DCNR says that while many trees are at peak color, others like prime oak are still green and developing and will extend the through the coming weeks.

Forbes State Forest, in Westmoreland County, and other parks around southwestern Pennsylvania are showing vibrant colors.

Most of the color has faded though in the higher elevations of the Laurel Highlands.
