The Governors Highway Safety Association is projecting pedestrian deaths in the U.S. reached a 40-year high in 2021 - just about 7500 people were hit and killed by drivers.

GHSA's Pam Fisher says it's because of a combination of things that haven't been addressed.

“We’ve got to do a better job in this country of looking at the vehicles and making sure they’re more protective of other people outside. You got to get those speeds down. We’ve got to improve our infrastructure. We’ve got to make sure the lighting is up to increase visibility.”

Data shows Pennsylvania saw 40 more pedestrians killed in 2021 compared to 2020, a 24% increase.
