Piece of copper kettle stolen from Penn Brewery

Penn Brewery

A piece of history...stolen from an historic Pittsburgh brewery.

This "piece of history" stolen Sunday morning from Penn Brewery, was the original bottom of their copper brew kettle.

This four-foot-wide section of thick copper was removed during a repair in 2023, according to the brewery's director of sales marketing, Amy Huseman, this was not some piece of scrap metal:

“It has intense fundamental value to us in 20 different ways from it being part of the copper kettle from it being a big then when it had to be cut out, from the cracks in the bottle of it and people are always impressed when they come into the brew hall and we would show it them on tours and everything, like look how thick and big this piece of metal is,” said Huseman.

She says the staff was planning to turn this piece of copper into a memorial plaque honing their late former Head Brewer, Andy Rich.

Huseman says Rich worked at the brewery for about 20 years and passed away in the past few years after being diagnosed with a brain tumor.

And they are currently working with detectives to hopefully arrange for the pieces return and the memorial can be made.
