Tuesday headlines

Pittsburgh's Headlines: September 15, 2026

After spending more than three weeks on administrative leave, Jason Bonace has been removed as Penn Hills police chief.

Mayor Pauline Calabrese announced the development during council’s Monday night nonvoting council meeting.

Calabrese said she learned Monday night that Bonace was removed by the township manager.

“The people of Penn Hills are entitled to answers,” said Mayor Calabrese.

The reason for Bonace’s removal has not been made public by acting township manager Diane Fitzhenry.

Mayor Calabrese called it a “devastating blow” to Penn Hills and said it was “politically motivated.”

A message seeking comment from Bonace has not been returned.
