Penn State's board of trustees voted 25-8 last night to close seven of the university's branch campuses.
The vote confirmed reports of three closures in Western Pennsylvania: New Kensington, Fayette and Shenango.
Board chair David Kleppinger say the decision was “difficult and “deeply personal” for the board.
The closures will take place in the 2026-27 academic year.
Over the past 10 years, enrollment has dropped 43 percent at the seven campuses being shut down.
