PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — With the snow coming down, PennDOT has announced a restriction on specific vehicle types using Interstate 80 in Indiana.
The temporary bans are activated for Tier 1, which follows PennDOT’s weather-dependent action plan.
A Tier 1 restriction will prohibit the following vehicles from using affected-area roadways: all commercial vehicles without chains or ATD onboard, empty tandem trailers, empty trailer trucks, motorcycles, permitted loads, RV/campers, straight trailer, tandem trailers, vehicles with tow-behind trailers, tractors without trailers, school buses, commercial buses, and motor coaches.
Also going into effect, speed limits are set at 45 miles per hour for all vehicles on the road while the restrictions are active.
Commercial vehicles that can still travel on the roadways must move to the right lane.
As mentioned, the restrictions are a temporary measure, so it will be lifted once conditions improve.
Highways are being treated by PennDOT and will continue to be worked on until the roads are clear and the precipitation subsides.
