Pennsylvania treasurer seeks $3 million budget increase

PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) - State Treasurer Stacy Garrity says her office needs more money to handle an increase in requests and services - about $3 million dollars more per year.

Garrity says a combination of rising salary and benefit obligations negotiated in collective bargaining agreements, has also taken a toll on her operating budget.

"Just over half of the labor and benefit increases are for mandated increases as a result of the collective bargaining agreement. And those are actually negotiated by the governors office," Garrity said during the KDKA Radio Morning Show Monday.

She also wants to hire a dozen more staffers, upgrade technology, and increase fraud protection services.
