Residents in Dravosburg are trying to make a change after a fatal crash involving a school van last week.
Jessica McCauley and her husband were driving along Richland Road on September 20, when they approached the crash scene.
They immediately pulled over to help. They are moments she says are still vivid one week later.
“It could’ve been stopped, it could’ve been prevented and it breaks my heart,” McCauley tells KDKA Radio.
15-year-old Samantha Kalkbrenner died in the crash.
McCauley drives that road daily and says speeding is a major issue.
That's why she started a petition to install a traffic light at the intersection of Richland Avenue and 5th Street.
The long list of accidents and fatalities on that road, this light should’ve been there, it should’ve already been there and this little girl would still be here,” said McCauley.
In less than 24 hours, the petition has nearly 2500 signatures of it’s 5,000 signature goal.
