With the Pittsburgh Planning Commission's recommendation of an affordable housing expansion heading to City Council, it's not too late to listen to the developers who play a critical role in the city's growth.
A week ago, on KDKA Radio, Walnut Capital President Todd Reidbord said the pace of approvals and meetings with the city on a proposed Bakery Square expansion has slowed significantly.
The project includes 100 new homes in Larimer and 800 apartment units with 15% set aside as affordable housing.
Walnut Capital has also committed to add $6 million to a fund for the Larimer houses, but Reidbord says the mayor's office seems to be dragging its feet.
After the Planning Commission’s vote on the inclusionary zoning bill, Reidbord predicted development will come to a halt in the city if Council passes it.
Council must find a compromise and amend the bill to encourage development rather than inhibit it.
