Pennsylvania State Police are investigating another scam involving someone claiming to be from a Sheriff's office, demanding money from a victim.
Investigators say a Westmoreland County woman this week sent more than $11,000 in Bitcoin to a scammer who told the victim she needed to pay the money or she would go to jail.
The 52-year-old woman lost a total of $11,250 in the scam.
Prosecutors are asking potential victims to report suspicious activity, and to never agree to any forms of payment involving Bitcoin, gift cards or wire transfers.
