PIOGA President: 'We're a net-energy exporting state - unlike all the other RGGI states'

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Pennsylvania Senate passed a bill Monday that would require Gov. Tom Wolf to receive legislative approval to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

The Pennsylvania House will now consider the bill. However, Wolf's office said he would veto the policy.

The 11-state plan would impose fees for industrial carbon dioxide emissions.

"Pennsylvania is an energy producing state - we're a net-energy exporting state - unlike all the other RGGI states. So our generation would potentially decline under RGGI because generators would be operating at a higher cost environment," said Dan Weaver, President and Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Independent Oil and Gas Association Tuesday.

Weaver said the future of energy in Pennsylvania is uncertain, and depends on the moves that are made from the government.
