KDKA Radio Editorial: Pirates Home Opener A Baseball Holiday

Opening Day Weekend.

It’s our national pastime’s baseball holiday, celebrated in Pittsburgh since

the late 1800s after the National League was formed. But, the last time the Pirates started the season at home was 2016!

This year, after four games in Miami and three games in Tampa, the Bucs home opener comes almost two weeks into the season.

But it feels like Opening Day and it should, especially with the Yankees in town.

And so, Bucco fans will pack PNC Park to enjoy a game played in one of the finest baseball cathedrals in the Major Leagues.

Looking back, there have been some great moments in the history of Pirates home openers including 2014 when the Pittsburgh Kid Neil Walker hit a home run in the bottom of the 10th to defeat the Cubs.

Who knows when the next great moment on Opening Day will come!
