Pittsburgh police are providing more information now on the incident that led to an alert by University of Pittsburgh police to avoid the area of the Petersen Events Center. City police say a man hit another in the head with a hammer on the 13-hundred block of Diana Street in Spring Hill. Then....he fled from the scene in a vehicle that was later spotted in Troy Hill. Police eventually tried to stop him at Bigelow and Herron, but he fled down Bigelow. The vehicle crashed at O'Hara and DeSoto in Oakland and the suspect fled. City police are using drones to try and locate him. The latest update---issued minutes ago....is the suspect has left the Oakland area....the area near the Pete has been cleared...and Pittsburgh police are now continuing to look for him.
He's described as an Hispanic male, wearing a black tossel cap....blue jeans and a grey hoodie.
