The Cathedral of Learning is closed Wednesday.
The University of Pittsburgh says it's due to what it calls a "significant electrical issue."
Access is limited until normal electrical service is restored.
Instructors are being asked to conduct classes remotely, and people who work in the building are being told to contact supervisors for more guidance.
Only people with urgent needs to enter the building will be allowed inside and they must be cleared by the Fifth Avenue security desk.
