Crews are on the scene of a serious accident on the Rt. 65 ramp to the Fort Duquesne Bridge and on Reedsdale Street on the North Side after a five-vehicle crash Wednesday that claimed the life of two people.
Speaking to the media, Pittsburgh Police Chief Jason Lando says two people have died in the accident.
One of the vehicles landed on Reedsale Street, four more cars remained on the ramp.
The accident has closed the ramp to the Ft. Pitt Bridge and is causing heavy backups. Lando expects the road to be closed for an extended period of time.
In a release, PennDOT says “southbound Route 65 is closed to traffic at the ramp to the Fort Duquesne Bridge in the City of Pittsburgh. Though drivers are able to utilize the left-hand lane to northbound Route 28/north I-279.”
A vehicle crashed off the Ft. Duquesne Bridge and landed near Reedsdale Street and Tony Dorsett Drive on the North Side.
No official word of injuries. This is a developing story.
