The UPMC Terrace is officially open at Pittsburgh International Airport, marking the debut of the very first public outdoor passenger space.
It's located on the landside arrivals level right next to baggage claims 5 through 8.
On the Big K Morning Show, Director of Public Affairs Bob Kerlik says the terrace incorporates local landscaping elements.
“There’s walking trails, we have over 40 species of plants, there’s benching were people can enjoy food items so it’s really a great chance to get out doors,” said Kerlik, adding you can see the airfield and planes landing and taking off
He says the terrace offers travelers and visitors open-air relaxation, seating, and a view of airport operations without the need for membership fees or security clearance.
And he says no security is required. That's because the terrace is positioned pre-security, meaning it is accessible to meeters, greeters, airport employees, and the general public, not just ticketed passengers.
