According to a new study, Pittsburgh ranks among the top 20 cities in the country with the most package thefts since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The website bid-on-equipment.com analyzed Google search data for the phrase 'stolen package' as well as other related terms to create their list.

The analysis was conducted between March and November 2020.

Pittsburgh ranks at #13 for searches per capita related to the topic with 422 per 100,000. That's higher than cities like Philadelphia, Miami, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Washington D.C., San Francisco, Jersey City, Minneapolis and St. Louis make up the top five.

The pandemic forced millions of Americans to conduct shopping online throughout the year to avoid crowds and potential exposure to the virus. With the holiday shopping season just beginning, online shopping continues.

Nationwide, shoppers just set a record for online sales on Black Friday.

On Monday, Pittsburgh Police issued several tips for keeping "porch pirates" at bay, like scheduling deliveries when you'll be home or asking the delivery company to keep the packages at their facility so you can pick them up yourself.
