Pittsburgh area pizza shop under Consumer Alert after multiple repeat violations

A pizza shop in the Pittsburgh area is under Consumer Alert after several violations, including lack of adequate refrigeration.

Caseys Pizza on Penn Avenue in Turtle Creek was hit with 16 total violations, including three considered high-risk.

Those high-risk violations include several products found out of the safety zone holding temperature of 41 degrees or lower in a cooler.

Those items include American cheese, cooked pasta, ricotta cheese, raw sausage, anchovies, cooked steak, sliced ham and capicola, cooked meatballs and sausage, pizza sauce and more.

Inspectors say all of the food was thrown away.

Allegheny County Health Department inspectors also noticed employees not washing their hands “multiple times” including after handling money at the register and returning to food prep, when switching gloves and more.

The deli slicer was also seen “soiled with debris.”

The Health Department says that “Due to lack of functional refrigeration, offered menu must be limited to pizza, hoagies and sides only,” under the alert is lifted.

Inspectors say the alert is “due to repeat medium, high-risk violations, and lack of functional refrigeration facility.”

Any updates to the restaurant’s Consumer Alert status and full inspection report can be found on the Health Department’s website.
