The South Side Signals Project will upgrade traffic infrastructure to making driving and walking through the neighborhood safer.
Work includes higher visibility signals, controllers, communication hardware and detection-using radar.
There will also be new pedestrian countdown signals, push buttons, curb extensions and new ADA ramps.
Most of the work will take place for several blocks along 18th street, as well as at Brownsville Rd and Bausman Street.
Here are the following intersections that will undergo a signal upgrade:
- 18th Street and Sara Street
· 18th Street and Jane Street
· 18th Street and Mission Street
· 18th Street and Arlington Ave
· Brownsville Road and Bausman Street
- 18th Street and Josephine Street
The $5.2 million project is expected to be done by May 2023. The city does not expect there to be major traffic impacts through the process.
