The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh along with the city controller both seek to have a ballot question removed for a second time.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and City Controller Rachael Heisler have challenged efforts to get a question on the Primary ballot seeking to change the city’s Home Rule Charter to keep it from doing business with Israel.

The federation alleges that the organizers did not collect enough signatures to appear on the ballot, and that the referendum itself could be in violation of state law.

City Controller Rachel Heisler agrees. She says “If this proposal were to become law, it would significantly disrupt the City’s ability to provide the essential services that residents rely on – especially when it comes to public health and safety,” end quote.

The changes to the Home Rule Charter would mean the city could not do business with organizations like Microsoft, Dell, Google, Amazon and many others.
