Work to demolish a bridge over the Parkway North gets underway today.
And it means there will be off and on lane restrictions on I-279 in both directions under Jacks Run Road, between now and September.
The restrictions will happen between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The closures are necessary so crews can eventually demolish Jacks Run Bridge Number Three, which was closed last July after an inspection found corroded steel on its pier.
While there's no time frame yet, Allegheny County Public Works will conduct overnight shutdowns of I-279 and the HOV lanes.
The bridge will eventually be rebuilt next year, since prior to closure, it carried more than 4,600 vehicles a day.
