Pittsburgh’s NFL Draft isn’t just about football picks this year, it’s also giving rescue dogs a chance to be first-round selections in forever homes.
Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh’s Director of Marketing Michele Frennier tells KDKA Radio the NFL has run similar campaigns in other draft host cities.
HARP will feature 11 adoptable dogs during Day three (Saturday) of the NFL Draft, including an 8-year-old dog named Ben Roethlisberger.
“He is definitely a standout for somebody who is looking to bring that veteran personality to their home,” said Frennier. “He loveable, he loves his people, he loves treats, he’s a loyal companion so, we see him as truly, one of the best picks in the ‘Burgh.”
Other “pup picks” include dogs named Jerome Bettis, Terry Bradshaw, and Franco Harris. Fans can watch the adoptable “draft picks” take the stage during Saturday’s draft festivities.
HARP’s North Side location is closed due to the draft, Thursday – Saturday. Their East Side Shelter remains open.
