Pittsburgh firefighter Lee Weber drowned in Lake Erie while on vacation with his family.

He worked out of Engine Station 20 in the city's Hays neighborhood.

Weber's family said "Lee Weber was on a family outing in Conneaut, Ohio when he got caught along a breakwall and went under the water. He was 38 years old, an army veteran, and a city of Pittsburgh firefighter."

A family member said that he drowned while "bravely getting his son to safety."

Conneaut Fire Department's Assistant Chief Steve Sanford said they were called about a possible drowning around 1pm. He said in under an hour a coastguard helicopter from Detroit located Weber 200 yards from where he was last seen.

The location where Weber got caught in the water is said to be a problem area according to Sanford.

A family member said Weber's organs were donated in hopes to save lives.
