An arbitrator has granted a grievance filed by the Pittsburgh Firefighters union against the city of Pittsburgh that allows for firefighters to live outside the city, meaning there is now no residency requirement for active firefighters.
The city has 30 days to appeal.
Ralph Sicuro of the Firefighters Union spoke to Marty Griffin on NewsRadio KDKA about what this means for union members.
"I would imagine that based on things that my members brought to my attention that some of them will absolutely begin the process, once that 30 days is up, to find residency elsewhere."
Sicuro says schools and housing issues are among the reasons why many union members wish to live outside the city.
