Pittsburgh man accused of stealing nearly $400k from grandmother

The Allegheny County District Attorney’s office has charged a man who allegedly stole nearly $400,000 from his own grandmother.

Stephen Zappala’s office says 45-year-old William Mason of Pittsburgh stole the money over a four-year period.

A criminal complaint states Mason was his grandmother’s power of attorney between August 2020 through August 2024.

She was placed in a Monroeville nursing home in 2023 and racked up a past due balance of more than $65,000.

Investigators say they discovered a number of cash app and checks payable to Mason to cover rent, Amazon, Lyft and other purchases.

Mason has a preliminary hearing on September 15.
