Pittsburgh man charged with attempted homicide, kidnapping after incident in Scott Twp.

Allegheny County Police have charged a Pittsburgh man after a kidnapping and attempted homicide incident in Scott Township earlier this month.

Police say a female victim woke up around 5 a.m. on March 11 inside a residence on the 1000 block of Bower Hill Road to get ready for work. As she was leaving a residence, a man living her with “became agitated and began arguing with her.

The victim told police 34-year-old Michael Barnes began assaulting her and forced her into the passenger side of her car.

Barnes then drove at a high rate of speed down Bower Hill Road, during on North Wren Drive before crashing the car directly into a utility pole, predominantly on the side the victim was on.

She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Barnes was treated for minor injuries after the accident and on Wednesday was taken into custody. In addition to attempted homicide and kidnapping, Barnes is charged with false imprisonment, aggravated assault and robbery of a motor vehicle.
