Pittsburgh pharmacy open since 1880s closing down

Stanton Negley Drug is closing at the end of August.

There's a sign on the door of the East End independent pharmacy notifying customers business will end on Saturday, August 30.

On that day, Stanton Negley will finish a long run.

The Pittsburgh Business Times reports it was incorporated in 1882.

Pharmacies are operating in a difficult environment as health insurers and pharmacy benefits managers are making reimbursements on medications unprofitable.
