The City of Pittsburgh is preparing for a busy St. Patrick's Day weekend, starting with change on the South Side.

During today's police briefing at the city- county building, Pittsburgh Public Safety, along with other city leaders, discussed the opening of a a new substation on the South Side along S. 18th Street.

Commander Jeffery Abraham says the sub-station is to have role call and complete paperwork:

"This will not be a drug tank", he says..."Nor will it be a place where arrestees or detainees will be taken to".

City officials also encourage anyone who is celebrating this weekend to consider the use of rideshare platforms, or public transit.

Commander Jeffery Abraham says Rideshare drivers will have two assigned pick-up and drop-off lanes on the South Side:

"If you are requesting an Uber or a Lyft", he says, "and you are between the blocks of 1000 East Carson Street and 2100 East Carson Street, you'll be directed to either one of these locations".

Officials say the designated lanes will help mitigate foot and vehicle traffic gridlock on Carson Street.

The parade is set to start at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Greyhound bus station at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and 11th Street.
