Parents plan to rally before Monday’s Pittsburgh Public School Board hearing.

Several community groups will call for more transparency and consideration of the impact on students by closing or consolidating schools.

PPS administrators are working to compile a utilization study of the district’s schools.

A 2021 utilization report found that nearly half of Pittsburgh Public Schools’ 61 school buildings are at 50 percent capacity or less.

James Fogarty, executive director of A+ Schools stressed that there is not a plan listing which schools might close however, “No schools can close until next year.”

Monday’s rally is scheduled at 5 p.m. outside the administration building and the public hearing begins at 6.
