Pittsburgh Public Schools considering revising mask policy

As Pittsburgh Public Schools considers revising its mask policy, board members will host a public hearing Monday evening.

In a meeting last week, district physician Dr. Martin Gregorio said other major city districts have gone mask-optional.

"Without any major reported problems, could we go mask-optional? I think so," said Dr. Gregorio.

For now, the board is only considering whether or not to make masks optional for performing arts students. Board member Pam Harbin said she wasn't necessarily opposed to a mask-optional policy - but had concerns about kids forced to quarantine.

"Once our students are sent home, they don't have access to any instruction," Harbin said.

Board members say they'll consider changes to the general mask mandate next month. The public hearing is at 6 pm Monday.
