Pgh. Public makes adjustments after shooting near football game

Pittsburgh Headlines: October 2, 2026

Pittsburgh Public Schools is changing security measures at Friday’s football games following last night’s shooting outside Cupples Stadium.

In a statement posted on social media, Superintendent Dr. Wayne Walters says all district high schools are in secure mode, and all afternoon and after-school activities are canceled.

For Friday’s football games, spectators must be at least 18 years or older, with Perry High School’s Senior Night as an exception for families.

There will be additional police and security, no loitering outside the stadium, and at Cupples Stadium, spectators must remain in the stands.

Walters is also asking parents to talk with their children about staying alert and reporting anything concerning to a trusted adult or police.

“We know moments like this can be frightening and unsettling,” Dr. Walters said in the statement. “Please take care of one another, and know that Pittsburgh Public Schools is committed to keeping our students and families safe and informed.”
