Pittsburgh's Headlines: August 21, 2026

A restaurant in the Pittsburgh area is under Consumer Alert after an inspection on Thursday.

The Allegheny County Health Department says Caribbean Food Snacks on Stratmore Street in Crafton Heights was put under the alert after 16 violations were discovered.

An inspection shows that the restaurant was not holding certain foods (cooked rice held on stove temped at 76 degrees) at the proper hot temperatures, had soiled food contact surfaces and equipment and “improper wastewater disposal.”

Other issues include evidence that the restaurant has rodent problems and is not properly storing garbage.

A fresh dead mouse was found in the kitchen near the stove and cooler and “too many to count” mouse droppings were found inside a hand sink, inside a coffee mug stored on a rack, under the sink, behind the food prep table and rat droppings were found in a back room.

The inspection also shows that sinks did not have any soap and some sinks for handwashing were blocked.

For the full inspection report and to see any updates to the Alert, visit the Health Department’s website.

The Consumer Alert will be removed after ventilation violations are corrected, stove and fryers must be removed from the restaurant, grease cooking has to stop and “all catering must cease.”
