A restaurant in Shadyside is under a Consumer Alert after several violations were discovered, including dead and live rodents and insects.
Masala House Indian Bistro on Baum Boulevard was hit after an inspection on Wednesday afternoon by the Allegheny County Health Department.
A total of four violations were discovered, the most serious being the rodent and pest infestations.
An inspector found two live roaches in a kitchen, dead roaches on glue boards in the kitchen, two live mice found on the second floor in a personal living space, one live mouse on a glue board on the bottom of the stars, and mouse droppings in a prep area, first floor kitchen, floor and shelving and under a bar in a customer area and under a bench in the dining room.
Nesting material was also found in a cabinet behind a bar.
The Health Department says in order for the Consumer Alert to be removed, pest control services must be increased to at least bi-weekly, all mice, roaches and droppings must be removed and cleaned.
Also, a personal living space must be walked through for employees to get to a food preparation area. The Health Department says the area cannot be used as a living space.
A reinspection will take place 10 days. If corrective action is not taken, the restaurant will be ordered to close.
Any updates will be posted on the County’s website.
