A man who was 15 when he shot and killed a classmate for stealing his headphones pleaded guilty on Wednesday to first degree murder and will be sentenced later this month.
18-year-old Jaymier Perry went to Oliver Citywide Academy in May of 2023 with his mom's 9 mm handgun and shot 15-year-old Derrick Harris 10 times around 7:30 in the morning.
According to police, Harris died a short time later at Allegheny General Hospital.
Later police said video showed Perry kicking and stomping on his head before leaving the scene.
First degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence without parole but because Perry was a juvenile at the time he is entitled to a lesser sentence.
He will be sentenced on July 29 by Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Jaime Hickton.
